Monte Azul Press
Monte Azul Press
and Gallery is located in Cartago, Costa Rica, about 23
kilometers from the capital city of San José and at the foot of
beautiful Mt. Irazú, one of Costa Rica’s many active volcanoes
and national parks.
In accord with our
Mission Statement regarding the natural environment, Monte Azul
Press offers only the finest water-based inks and water-soluble
agents. Our philosophy leads us to promote materials that impact
our environment on a minimal level without sacrificing quality
and workability.

Artists from Costa
Rica and from abroad are invited to produce a body of work that
is distributed to an international audience through museums,
galleries and private collectors. Monte Azul Press actively
promotes international exchange among artists, museums and
galleries, and students of art. In some instances, Monte Azul
offers to the established artist, limited enrollment workshops
and/or one-on-one instruction with guest artists. Monte Azul
Press will also offer open enrollment workshops to students of
art beginning in late 2006 (please contact us for details).
Invited artists
are granted studio time, materials, use of facilities and
assistants. Artists who wish to hire the studio may submit their
requests for availability and rates.
Monte Azul Press
is proud to have on its staff renowned artist. Álvaro Gómez
Ulloa, whose long artistic career includes many museum
exhibitions, juried international art fairs, numerous gallery
exhibitions, various seminars on art theory and Latin American
contemporary art. Mr. Gomez also taught Printmaking at the
