Come to Costa Rica this fall and winter!

Dear Friends,

As we head into the Autumn of 2009, we wanted to remind you to plan your year-end trips and winter getaways to Costa Rica early. With direct flights from many cities and affordable air fairs, Costa Rica offers a guiltless vacation that will re-energize you.
Our hotel offers 4 luxury riverside Casitas, and Casa Palo Alto, our elegant hilltop villa. Without ever leaving our property you can hike our extensive network of trails, test your horseback riding skills, bird-watch and see how many of the 231 documented bird species you can identify, swim in our pool or enjoy one of the many swimming holes in the two rivers that run adjacent to our property.
If you are feeling creative, you can learn to make cheese or natural soaps, try your hand at paper making or take personal art instruction from one of our resident artists.
You may also choose to indulge in the complete privacy and comfort of your suite, while taking in the sights and sounds of the rainforest from your private deck and garden, or relax with in-room spa treatments.
Just up the road from Monte Azul are natural hot springs, and the entrance to Chirripó National Park, which boasts Costa Rica's highest peak, Cerro Chirripó at 12,500 ft. Alternatively, take day trips to the beach, enjoy kayaking in the warm ocean and mangroves, go whitewater rafting, zip lining and more.
Plan your vacation now, we would be glad to make recommendations and suggestions, just drop us an email at info@monteazulcr.com or call direct: +506 2742 5222 or in the USA at +1 646 478 7038.

ÁLVARO GÓMEZ
A graduate of the prestigious Universidad de Costa Rica where he later taught graduate and undergraduate seminars and studio courses, Álvaro Gómez is recognized as one of the country's leading artist in the medium of printmaking and painting. Recently, Gómez was invited to exhibit at the university in a one person exhibition, 'Papeles Manchados.' These works have just arrived at Monte Azul.
Fascinated by abstract forms in black and white, Gómez explores the interaction of inks and paint on both sides of the paper, taking full advantage of the Japanese Hosho paper and it's translucent nature. Suggestions of afigure merge into amorphous clouds of black, white and gray splatters and drips, often interrupted with a subtle trace of color perforating their surfaces. Over interplays of movement and suggestion of time and space, Gómez brings attention back to the surface with a very subtle metallic or iridescent finish, graphite scribbles and fragmented letters.
The interplay of depth and surface, of figures and graphics, draws the viewer into a world of endless transformation where movement, time, and light and dark converge.
A series of twelve mixed media monotypes comprise this current body of works on paper. Available works are now available for viewing in Costa Rica and New York. To arrange a viewing or for additional information, please contact us at info@monteazulcr.com or by calling 646 478 7038.

Julián Trejos Zelaya photographs Monte Azul

Renowned photographer, Julian Zelaya, has spent several days at Monte Azul, digitally capturing the visual essence of our project. We have found it difficult with our own cameras to express the ambiance of the hotels 125 acres, the majesty of the mountain rainforests and the grand vistas over the Chrirripo River, the elegance of the suites and interiors, and all of the other details difficult to convey on film. Our guests continually comment on how surprised they were at the beauty of the place and that our photo's did not do justice.
With Mr. Trejo's trained and discerning eye, Monte Azul is proud to offer new images of the beauty found here.
Thank you, Julian for a spectacular job!
