Offering excellence while promoting sustainability

Monte Azul Artist Retreat and Monte Azul Fine Art Press invite renowned artists from around the world to produce work at our lovely facilities in southern Costa Rica. The visiting artist is encouraged to experiment in a variety of media. Our hope is that a change of environment, along with some pampering, will offer opportunities for new forms of artistic expression.

At Monte Azul Press, with the mandate of minimum impact upon the natural environment, these works are made without the use of contaminating solvents, instead we use water-based inks and paints only. Many works are printed on paper handmade here at Monte Azul, much of it containing recycled fiber as well as fibers collected from the rainforest floor (no plants or trees are ever cut to obtain fiber). We aim to prove that sustainability need not be at odds with producing work of the highest quality.

As co-owner and Chief Curator, Carlos Rojas brings to his clients over 20 years of experience in the art business as an artist, curator and gallery owner. His fine reputation as an art dealer has earned him the trust of artists, collectors and art professionals internationally. Randall Langendorfer, whose passion for collecting, critical eye and desire to support contemporary artists in Costa Rica teams with Mr. Rojas to offer the best available works to the most discriminating clients.
