The objective at Monte Azul is to promote sustainability through environmentally friendly and sociably responsible business practices, while collaborating with the community in educational and economic enterprises.
At 1,000 to 1,170 mts (about 4,000 feet) above sea level, Monte Azul Nature Preserve covers some of the most endangered rainforest habitat in the tropics. While many coastal and high mountain forests have been protected, many mid-elevation forests have been decimated. Offering world class bird watching with over 250 different species catalogued to date on the preserve, the flora and fauna are all within our guests’ easy access. A system of trails is constantly being expanded by our local specialists, with over 3 kilometers (almost 2 miles) established.
Over 90% of our 48 hectare (125 acre) property is chartered for permanent protection. Although the majority is primary growth, Monte Azul is active in re-establishing forest on ex-pasture lands with native species reproduced at our on-site tree nursery
